Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Mainstreet Art Center has been in business for 24 years. Since 1994.
What is your primary product or service?
Drawing and Painting Instruction is our main service. We have a professional staff of Artists who also exhibit, compete in major National Shows and who have significant awards and titles in National Painting Organizations. Mainstreet also sells painting & drawing supplies and provides framing services. Classes start for 6 year olds through 92 year olds. Special workshops are offered several times a year with leading artists in their field of specialty, such as Portraiture, Plein Air, Figure, Watercolor, Still Life and Mixed Media.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I was always drawing as a young child and started painting lessons at age 10, this was for 1 summer. At age 20 I started painting classes at an Art School in Wauconda, Il. The instructor took me under her wing and after two years, trained me to become one of her teachers. She offered me great workshops with well know instructors who came in, where my training really kicked in. I was like a sponge and learned so much from these master painters. Ten years later, the school was sold and that is when I ventured off on my own to start my own school. I run it exactly how my mentor ran it and we are very successful today. Thank you Bonnie.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We have a professional staff of Artists who have been teaching for at least 20 years and they continue to work at improving their own work. They are in galleries around the country and compete at the highest levels of competition. They bring much to the table to be able to help the very beginner as well as the very experienced Artists. We have a structured program, which takes new students through 8 weeks of beginning charcoal fundamentals and through beginning steps of color study and onto painting procedures. Our staff started as students here and have gone through these steps together, therefore, it is easy to do make up classes on other days, knowing they will be able to pick up where each student is in their progression.
